Activists from NGOs and mass organisations working on gender issues today staged a march in the heart of the national capital to mark International Women's Day. Led by the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), the groups walked to Parliament Street from Mandi House. "We have come together to celebrate our solidarity and our resistance to the brazen patriarchal, casteist, communal and regressive forces that are operating with utter impunity in the country," an activist said, addressing a public meeting at Jantar Mantar. The participants shouted slogans such as "Nari mukti zindabad" and "Nari ekta zindabad" as they pledged to continue working on women's issues. "Together we reaffirm our commitment to a violence-free, just society," the activist said at Jantar Mantar. March 8 is celebrated across the world as International Women's Day.
