CM recommends NIA probe in Sunil Mahto murder case

Chief Minister Raghubar Das today recommended a probe into the murder of then MP of JMM Sunil Mahto by National Investigation Agency.

On the day of Holi on March 4, 2007, Mahto had been assassinated in Jamshedpur. On February 06, his mother Khando Devi, had met the CM and had demanded for NIA probe in the murder case. The CM gave instructions to the department regarding this and after that the Home, Prisons and Disaster Management Department sent the proposal for the probe.

In the proposal sent to the Chief Minister, Ghatshila police station Case no. 28/07, dated 05.03.2007, section 302/307/379/427/435/34, IPC 27 arms act and CLA act 17 (I) (II) was requested for investigation. It was stated that the matter is being investigated by CBI and is in final stages including submission of chargesheet. Inquiry of the case on the demand of the family has been recommended to be done by NIA.

Earlier in 2017 family members of former JMM leaders Sunil Mahto and Nirmal Mahto alongwith their followers had staged an indefinite hunger strike from November 14 near Raj Bhawan demanding NIA probe into the two high profile murder cases.

Sunil Mahto’s mother Khando Devi and his cousin brother Shushen Mahto had also met the Governor and had submitted a memorandum to her. They had also demanded martyr’s status for the leaders.
