GUWAHATI: The Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) and the University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (
USTM) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work together on rural technology and rural development to ensure 100% literacy and healthcare facilities in villages selected by both the institutions.
The MoU was signed by IIT-G director
Gautam Biswas and USTM chancellor
Mahbubul Hoque in the presence of several deans, UTSM vice-chancellor RK Sharma, and pro vice-chancellor Alaka Sarma.

Biswas said the agreement is a step forward to integrate the premier institute with Assam as well as its neighbouring states through social and educational outreach programmes. USTM chancellor Hoque expressed hope that the MoU will create a bond for cooperation between IIT-G and USTM.
According to the pact, IIT-G will provide faculty support to USTM and host USTM students for attending special classes.
