NCP to contest at least 100 seats

more-in

The Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which announced its election foray in Karnataka Assembly elections through an alliance with the JD(S), has announced that it would contest in at least 100 seats across Karnataka.

This has come as a surprise as the JD(S) — soon after announcing the alliance — had said it was looking at about five to seven seats in Bombay-Karnataka and Hyderabad-Karnataka region, where there are a good number of Mr. Pawar’s supporters.

“We feel that we can contest in at least 100 seats. Ultimately, Mr. Pawar and Mr. Deve Gowda will decide on the number of seats,” Prakash More, convener of the campaign committee, said.

Sticking to the earlier announcement, JD(S) national working president P.G.R. Sindhia, said: “In principle, the party has agreed to give up to eight seats after JD(S) State president) H.D. Kumaraswamy met Mr. Pawar. That is a given, and we will stand by it.”
