Expressing unhappiness over the Supreme Court’s final verdict on the Cauvery dispute, Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha member H.K. Javare Gowda has appealed to the State government to file a review petition.

The court’s order asking Karnataka to release 171 tmcft of water between June and November in a year was difficult to follow, he said at a press conference in Hassan on Wednesday. As per the order, Karnataka had to release 1 tmcft of water daily during the monsoon. “We don’t get that much water during the monsoon in Karnataka. How can the State release so much of water?” he asked. Therefore, the government should file a review petition, he said.

Further, he said as the final order was pronounced, by and large, the people of the State felt it was favourable to Karnataka. “Though the amount of water allocated to the State has been increased, it is difficult to follow the court’s order with regard to release of water during monsoon,” he said. He also welcomed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s move to convene an all-party meeting to decide the future course of action.
