Market Now: Smallcaps drop in sync with midcaps, plays catch-up with Sensex

NEW DELHI: In line with the BSE Midcap index, the BSE Smallcap index was also underperforming benchmark Sensex during Thursday's trade.
The BSE Smallcap index was trading 0.64 per cent down at 17,161 around 11:25 am (IST), while the BSE Sensex was 0.23 per cent up at 33,109. The NSE Nifty50 index was 0.17 per cent up at 10,171.
Shares of GTL Infrastructure (down 14.46 per cent), Dalmia Bharat Sugar and Industries (down 9.85 per cent), Uttam Sugar Mills (down 8.52 per cent) and Balrampur Chini Mills (down 8.26 per cent) were among the top losers in the BSE Smallcap index.
However, shares of Bhushan Steel (up 14.90 per cent), Mangalam Drugs and Organics (up 10.59 per cent), Sunil Hitech Engineers (up 8.58 per cent) and Aegis Logistics (up 7.04 per cent) were trading up in the smallcap index.
Benchmark BSE Sensex was up 84 points at 33,117, while the NSE Nifty50 index was up 23 points at 10,177.
Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 26 were trading in the green, while 24 were in the red.
Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank and HDFC were among the top gainers in the Sensex index.
However, YES Bank, Sun Pharma and Tata Motors were among the top losers in the Sensex kitty of stocks.
