Devotees seek Mahant Dass’s blessing at Jhanda Mela

A day after the raising of the holy flag pole at Shri Guru Ram Rai Darbar Sahib, a large number of devotees congregated on Wednesday to offer their prayers and seeks blessings from the Mahant Devendra Dass.

Addressing the devotees on the occasion, the Mahant exhorted them to come forward for leading an ideal life while also caring for the environment and getting rid of social evils and problems like substance addiction. He said that all must ensure their roles in nation-building by going for ideal person-ideal family.

According to the senior public relations officer of Shri Darbar Sahib, Bhupendra Raturi, on Thursday the Nagar Parikrama will be led by the Mahant. It will begin in the morning from Shri Darbar Sahib premises. It will reach SGRR Public School, Bindal via Saharanpur Chowk and Kanwali Road. Here the Prasad will be distributed to devotees  after which the procession will Saharanpur Chowk via Tilak Road, Tagore Villa, Clock-tower, Paltan Bazaar, Lakkhibagh, Gau Ghat, Lakkar Mandi, Matawala Bagh and Bhandaribagh.

After that the ‘Nagar Parikrama’ procession will bow down at the cemetery of previous Mahants before concluding at Darbar Sahib in the afternoon.

Meanwhile, environmental, law and order issues were discussed in a meeting of the additional director general of police (law and order) Ashok Kumar with Mahant Devendra Dass.

The Mahant informed that in order to not affect the traffic of the city, the Nagar Parikrama route has been shortened this time. He also emphasised on the use of bicycles by children as well as adults for decreasing pollution.

According to the Jhanda Mela committee, team efforts involving the contribution of all people in Dehradun are a must for preserving the environment of Dehradun and stall its deterioration.

It is with this in mind, that the traditional procession taken out in the city has been shortened this year.
