It was a lucky escape for 35 persons when the driver of a private bus they were travelling in lost control on the Moosapet–Bharatnagar flyover and tumbled onto the parallel road below. All passengers on board were IT professionals.
Police said that three persons suffered minor injuries and were rushed to a private hospital for treatment.
Sanathnagar police said the accident took place at 1.25 a.m. on Wednesday and the bus was badly damaged.
‘Driver dozed off’
“The driver, Mohammed Jaffar (50), dozed off at the wheel and hit the median on the flyover, as a result of which the bus took a U-turn, rammed into the parapet and fell off from the flyover,” said J. Venkat, sub-inspector, Sanathnagar.
He said that the bus started from a private IT company in Hitec City and was headed towards Ameerpet when the accident took place.
“An alcohol test was conducted on the driver and the results showed he was not in an inebriated condition,” said Mr. Venkat, adding that the bus fell from a height of over seven feet.
Based on the complaint by a passenger, a case of rash and negligence driving was registered against the driver. A probe is on.
