Minerva Punjab FC create history as they are crowned the I-League 2017-2018 champions for the very first time. It was only a win which could allow the club to clinch the title and it was a lone goal which separated the two clubs in the entire 90 minutes of the fixture. William Opoku's 15th-minute goal decided the fate of the games despite the Churchill Brother's attack zipping past the Punjab defence.
As East Bengal and NEROCA FC drew 1-1, it was a clear-cut chance for Minerva Punjab to go all out and collect three points to help them lift the title.
It was a heartbreak for NEROCA FC as they needed a win to ensure the that the cup were still in their sights and however a draw to fourth place East Bengal ended their hopes of lifting the silverware.
It was a fairytale ending for Minerva as they end the 2017-2018 campaign as I-League champions.
