Action director Michael Bay, known for directing the Transformers franchise, has two exciting projects lined up. 6 Underground, an action movie penned by the Deadpool writers (Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese) and Steven Spielberg’s passion project, the science-fiction movie Robopocalypse, as reported by Variety.

6 Underground is based on an original idea by writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, and will see them come on board as executive producers along with Skydance Media, while the plot details are still being kept under wraps. “Throughout his career, Michael Bay has been unparalleled in creating global theatrical events. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have this amazing team come together, bringing their unique style and vision to the movie,” said David Ellison, CEO of Skydance Media, as reported by Variety.

But Robopocalypse has been in public consciousness for a very long time now as Spielberg’s personal favourite project which he was originally slated to direct himself but it was delayed repeatedly due to lack of time. Now, Spielberg has handpicked Bay to bring the ambitious movie, set in a world after a robot uprising based on the science fiction novel by Daniel H Wilson to its onscreen realisation.

While Spielberg has had an extraordinarily busy quarter, with the back to back releases of The Post and the virtual reality extravaganza Ready Player One this month, and the production of his upcoming remake of the Oscar winning musical West Side Story, Bay has been busy producing  the love-action film on Dora the explorer.
