Baxter blames 'whole system' for current state of Bafana

2018-03-08 13:07

Cape Town - Bafana Bafana head coach Stuart Baxter on Tuesday, March 6 met with members of the media to articulate his vision going forward.

According to SAFA website, the national coach said his intention was to identify and inject as many youngsters in the national team as possible with the view of giving them experience going forward.

South Africa will take part in a four-nation tournament in Ndola, Zambia in a competition comprising hosts Zambia, Zimbabwe, Angola and South Africa during the March FIFA window period.

"I believe that in the games coming up‚ we've got to do two things this year," Baxter said as quoted by the SowetanLIVE website.

"We have got to try and tidy up the garden. When I say garden‚ I use that because there are plenty of weeds. And I don’t mean just on the football field.

"I mean at SAFA House‚ I mean with our relationship to the media‚ I mean with our relationship with the clubs‚ I mean with our relationships with the players."

The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor has worked in South African football for many years prior to accepting the Bafana job for a second time.

Baxter reveals that over the years he has learned that everyone has an opinion as to why Bafana Bafana is in turmoil while the 64-year-old is blaming the "whole system".

"I just believe that in this country it’s so difficult and complicated. Yet‚ if we could get it right‚ it could be so beautiful‚” he said.

"But we’re not going to get it right if we keep on replicating. And I’ve looked back‚ and it doesn’t matter who was coach‚ but in some way it’s screwed itself up.

"It doesn’t matter if it was Pitso (Mosimane)‚ or was it Gordon’s (Igesund) fault‚ or Shakes’s (Mashaba) fault or Carlos’s (Parreira) fault.

"Who’s fault was it? I think it’s the whole system and the way we’ve perceived our development‚ not working.

"And if that’s radical‚ that’s radical. And I’ve got to be the one who tries to lead it."
