LUCKNOW: Introduced with a lot of conviction in January this year, the much awaited
e-lottery system to select
liquor vendors in
Uttar Pradesh failed to take off soon after it was launched on Thursday around 11am.
The excise department did not seem to have tested the software beforehand and the e-lottery process initiated by BJP government crashed leading to lot of commotion among businessmen who had showed interest.
At
Ganna Sansthan in Lucknow, hundreds of businessmen who had applied online collected to participate in lottery draw. However by 12pm it became clear that the software was plagued with some issues forcing the department to briefly suspend the lottery process.

Santosh Tiwari asked businessmen to come back again at 3pm, by when the IT company engaged by the department assured to fix the bug and rerun the software.
Sardar SP Singh, president of liquor traders association in Lucknow said that participants were apprehensive about the changed system.
"Already a lot of confusion was created from the time policy was changed. The system has crashed and now we all are extremely worried, " said Singh.
BJP government soon after taking over had assured of breaking the syndicate of some liquor traders who started calling the shot and pushed only limited number of products.
