GURUGRAM: On International Women’s Day, meet
Deepa Aantil from
Gurugram, who is not only contributing to society by assisting in cases of dowry and domestic violence, but also encouraging more and women to find employment.
Deepa has helped some 2,000 women begin ventures, such as a sewing centre and a beauty parlour. Several women have also been trained in sewing, embroidery, beauty and other services so that they can get a job.
In addition, she is working for the ‘Beti bachao, Beti padhao andalan’ and visits families welcoming a girl child with ‘shagun.’
A resident of Sector 56 in Gurugram, Aantil said she was a premature baby. Born on Diwali day, family members were ecstatic and welcomed her as Goddess Lakshmi. Her family showered her with love, which inspired her to work for the welfare of women.
Among her focus areas is the counselling of victims of dowry and domestic violence. She also helps with legal assistance if a compromise cannot be reached.
Previously an English lecturer in a private institute. In 2011, Deepa started the 'Sashakt Naari Parishad' for
women empowerment. According to her, about 1.5 lakh people across the nation are members of her parishad.
