VW expects the all-new Jetta to be more frugal on fuel, once it arrives in dealers across the US this summer.
Despite being larger than the current model the 2019 Jetta makes use of clever and affordable technologies in order to improve its fuel economy, with VW announcing an EPA-estimated 30mpg city/40mpg highway/34mpg combined, two mpg higher on the combined than the current automatic model.
VW has optimized the exterior of the new Jetta for aerodynamic drag reduction while also added shutters in the front grille that close in certain speeds and when the engine requires less air flow. The company has also designed the front bumper with an “air curtain” feature that lowers turbulence over the wheels.
Moreover, the underbody panels are sculpted to ensure that suspension components will not create unnecessary air obstructions while the styling of the rear end helps smooth the air flow. The result of these measures is a class-leading drag coefficient of 0.27.
The new 2019 VW Jetta is powered by the 1.4-liter TSI petrol engine, which has been further optimized to sip less fuel. Features like a clutch-driven air-conditioner, a more efficient generator and a smoother-flowing grade of oil contribute the to improvement of the engine’s fuel efficiency.
All 2019 Jettas with an automatic transmission will be fitted with a start-stop function as standard, with VW claiming a reduction of fuel consumption by as much as 6 percent. The new eight-speed automatic transmission also helps, as well as a set of low-resistance tires that reduce resistance by up to 25 percent, without sacrificing handling, always according to VW.
