Jaipur: The
Vaishali Nagar police arrested a 26-year-old woman for threatening to implicate a 35-year-old man in a fake rape case.
The police informed TOI that the woman, identified as Priya Seth, who hails from Pali also threatened to throw acid on the complainant’s sister.
“Seth has a criminal past which include ATM loot bid. She had also been in the past involved in escort services. We have arrested her and investigation is being carried out,” said Vaishali Nagar SHO Bhopal Singh.
The officials informed TOI that on January 23, one person had filed a case against the woman at Vaishali Nagar police station in which he alleged that she had been threatening him for past many months and at one point also said that she will carried out an attack on his sister.
“We investigated the matter and searched for the girl. She was arrested and currently being quizzed,” Singh informed TOI.
The initial investigation indicates that she had in the past befriended people on social media websites; spoke to them on numerous occasions before threatening to implicate them and extorting money.
“We are currently examining the cases which have been filed against her in different police stations. We have found that she was booked for escort services and other such relates cases,” Singh told TOI.
The special operations group (SOG) of Rajasthan police had last year busted a similar gang which extorted money from wealthy people by filing false rape cases against them. Several of its gang members were arrested and sent to jail.
The Jaipur police said that they are interrogating Seth to understand if she had blackmailed other people also. “In these case many victims don’t turn up due to fear of public humiliation,” the official informed TOI.
