A travel warning has been issued for a popular tourist destination.????The US Consular Embassy in Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico has been shut down indefinitely following an alert by the US Embassy in Mexico City.????In a security alert, the US Embassy says it “received information about a security threat in Playa del Carmen,” but does not specify details about the threat.

Employees of the US Government have been banned from visiting Playa del Carmen until further notice.????American tourists are still allowed to visit this region of Mexico, but have been advised to take additional precautions, and register with the State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program.??
