India face an unpredictable Bangladesh in the second match of the Nidahas Trophy Twenty20 tri-series in Colombo on Thursday. The Rohit Sharma-led team were humbled by hosts Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in the first match on Tuesday. With the win, Sri Lanka halted India's seven-match winning streak against the island nation in T20Is. India were favourites coming into the series but the shock loss to the hosts has opened up the series. India, defending a competitive 174 for five, were let down by the bowling department as Kusal Perera, who scored 66 off 37 balls, did not spare the bowlers and hit boundaries at will. Yuzvendra Chahal, the only frontline spinner in the team was also not spared. (LIVE SCORECARD)

Captain Rohit, however, backed the young guns to deliver against Bangladesh. "Our bowlers tried everything they could, but sometimes it doesn't come off the way you want it to. I felt we have enough experience in our bowling line-ups. Yes, they are new on the scene, but they've put in performances. I had a lot of confidence going into the game," Rohit said.

You write the perfect script, predict the outcome based on all the permutations and combinations and then hope to watch the game pan out in the manner you expected. That's all you can do, because sport has this uncanny knack of surprising the viewers to no ends. The moment the T20I triangular series involving Sri Lanka, India and Bangladesh was announced, many pounced on the opportunity, thereby predicting India to be favorites to stay unbeaten in the tournament and hence, to go on to win the silverware. Those opinions refused to budge even after seeing an Indian squad sans the usual faces in the Kohlis, Dhonis and the Bumrahs. Now, one match into the series, the hosts have just forced the followers to rethink. The Lankans inflicted a defeat on their neighbors to start on a positive note. Whether this forces India to press the panic button remains to be seen. Shikhar Dhawan continued his strong run with the bat, only to miss his maiden T20I ton by a whisker. Rohit Sharma didn't have a memorable night with the bat as well as with the leadership mantle as he failed to open his account (both with the bat and in terms of result of the side). However, as much as this series is about shaping the youngsters in the squad by giving them a good run and hence, exposure, the larger picture of a victory won't be lost on coach Ravi Shastri and the boys. They'd have a glance in the direction of their bowling to just tighten the screws, when they step out to play the second game in this tourney. Taking field opposite them would be the third team in the competition, Bangladesh. The perennial minnows of world cricket, they would be raring to rub salt in the wounds of the opposition. They themselves are without their regular T20I skipper in Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah would continue to fill in, in that role for them. Theirs is largely the same side that faced Sri Lanka in the series preceding this one. Liton Das, the attacking wicketkeeper batsman, is back in the mix as well. A glance at the squad and one would feel they have their bases covered. However, they have largely failed to step up on the given day and would want to make it a thing of the past. At the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, they have played two games in this format and have had mixed results. Do Bangladesh have it in them to upstage the Indians? Will India brush their loss in the first T20I aside and hunt with renewed vigor? There are a few thunderstorms predicted in the afternoon but the weather is largely expected to be clear during the course of the game. Only time will tell what will rain - fours and sixes or otherwise.
