India maul Malaysia 5-1  in Azlan Shah

ipoh (malaysia): Dishing out their best show, India mauled hosts Malaysia 5-1 to earn an outside chance of qualifying for the final of the Azlan Shah Cup hockey tournament. India scored through Shilanand Lakra (10th minute), Gurjant Singh (42nd, 57th), Sumit Kumar (48th) and Ramandeep Singh (51st) to register their first full three points in the tournament and keep themselves afloat. Faizal Saari (33rd) was the lone goal scorer for the home team. With this convincing victory, India has managed to keep alive their final hopes, but it will depend on favourable results.For India to qualify for the final, they will first have to beat Ireland by a big margin on Friday and hope Australia beat Argentina and the final round robin match between Malaysia and England ends in a draw.

Karnataka to face India B in Deodhar final

dharamsala: Unconquered in the tournament so far, Vijay Hazare Trophy winners Karnataka would look to ensure that their campaign culminates in a title when they square off against India B in the Deodhar Trophy final on Thursday. Karnataka beat both India A and India B to make the final of the 50-over event. India B  stumbled against Karnataka after brushing aside India A in the tournament opener. The final is expected to be an absorbing affair, just like it was when the two teams met on Monday, when Karnataka eked out a six-run win. India B were cruising towards the 297-run target but Karnataka fought back in nick of time to clinch the issue.

Warner fined but cleared for 2nd Test

durban: AAustralia vice-captain David Warner is free to play in the second Test against South Africa after he accepted an ICC charge of bringing the game into disrepute on Wednesday. Cricket's world body fined Warner 75 per cent of his match fee for an altercation with South African wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock in the first Test this week. CCTV footage showed him apparently turning on De Kock as the players walked up a staircase during the tea break in the fourth day of the match. The footage shows Warner being restrained by teammates Usman Khawaja and Nathan Lyon. By accepting a level two offence, Warner was hit with three demerit points and fined but avoided a one-Test ban.

'Blind Cricket Conclave' to be held in New Delhi

new delhi: Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) and Samarthanam Trust in association with IndusInd  Bank will be organizing a Blind Cricket Conclave on March 9, 2018 at The Plaza Terrace, The Lalit Barakhamba Avenue, Connaught Place, New Delhi. The objective of the conclave is to recall the blind cricket achievements, success stories and discuss the future of blind cricket with ways to widen its reach. The event will present a picture on how the visually impaired players have undergone a complete transformation with blind cricket as a career. Winners of 5th ODI Blind Cricket World Cup, Indian Team  will also be present at the Conclave in New Delhi.

Mann, Gupta qualify for Mercedes National Finals

noida: City golfers Rishab Mann Handicap Category A (0-17) and Sushil Gupta - Handicap Category B (18-24) qualified for the National Finals of MercedesTrophy 2018 on day 1 of the Noida leg qualifier held on Tuesday. Rishab and Sushil clinched the first two qualification spots available from the leg by carding a nett. Score of 71.8 and 72.6 respectively.The MercedesTrophy 2018 has so far seen 39 qualifiers including Wednesday who will be competing in the National Finals to be played at the Oxford Golf Resort in Pune from 4-6 April 2018.  This year's MercedesTrophy will host 27 days of golf across 12 Indian cities.
