2,000 KSRTC buses, stations to have CCTV cameras

The KSRTC will instal CCTV cameras in 2,000 buses as well as bus stations to enhance safety of women passengers.

The Rs 35.42-crore initiative is part of several programmes to be taken up with Central assistance that were announced during the Women's Day celebrations organised by KSRTC on Thursday.

The corporation will also allocate Rs 5.43 crore for an enforcement wing for gender sensitisation and women's awareness. An amount of Rs 7.8 crore will be utilised for building infrastructure to train women drivers and conductors, while Rs 5.85 crore will be utilised to provide facilities for women passengers at bus stations.

The total cost of the various initiatives is estimated at Rs 54.49. The Centre has released 60% of the cost under the Nirbhaya funds. The KSRTC will request the state government to bear Rs 21.80 crore.

The KSRTC honoured 50 women employees on the occasion. A memorandum of understanding with Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research was signed to arrange cardiac master health checkup for employees and officers of the corporation.
