Sir — This refers to the editorial, “A giant leap” (March 5). The BJP’s big win in the North-East established one fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s popularity continues unabated. The election results are bound to be a shot in the arm for the BJP, especially as it enters a new territory.
On the other hand, it is unfortunate that the Left, instead of engaging itself in thorough self-introspection, has been attributing the BJP’s victory to “money and muscle power” and “foul play by the BJP and RSS”. The underlying lesson from the verdict is that in the end, what matters to the common man is the ability of political parties to fulfill basic needs and aspirations.
