Says lives of employees and key executives in danger

Mobile telecommunication service provider Aircel filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court on Wednesday seeking a direction to the State government and the Director General of Police to provide adequate protection to its offices, warehouses and helpdesks across the State since customers were indulging in vandalism ever since the company filed an insolvency application before the National Company Law Tribunal in Mumbai last week.

Justice M.S. Ramesh adjourned the hearing on the case to March 21 after government counsel informed the court that the DGP had already issued necessary instructions to his subordinates.

Filing an affidavit in support of the writ petition, the company’s authorised representative, B. Balaji, said that the lives of its employees and key management executives were in danger due to the threat posed by violent mobs of disgruntled vendors and customers.

He claimed that about 300 people barged into the office of the company at Poonamallee High Road on February 22 and abused the women employees.

He also alleged that local policemen failed to provide protection to the company’s offices in the State.
