The Yogi Adityanath government has ordered a probe into alleged irregularities under its Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana in Noida following reports that married couples allegedly tied the knot to claim benefits under the ambitious scheme.
There were also complaints that toe rings gifted to brides under the scheme were not made of silver.
Toe ring complaint
“We have received reports from Noida that four married couples remarried to avail the benefits of the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana. Similarly, it was reported that the toe ring given to brides in Auraiya district was not made of silver. Complaints from other districts were also received,” said U.P. Minister for Social Welfare Ramapati Shastri.
Committee formed
The Minister assured that the State government had taken serious cognisance of the complaints.
“Remarriage of married couples in Noida will be probed by a committee formed under the Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate. Instructions have also been issued to take action against guilty officials in Auraiya district,” Mr. Shastri said.
Referring to the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana, Mr. Shastri said it was an ambitious scheme by the U.P. Chief Minister.
Over the past three months, nearly 7,000 marriages have been held in 57 districts of the State, he said, adding that similar events will be planned in other districts as well.
Under the mass marriage scheme, ₹35,000 is spent on each couple and they are also given household items. The mass marriages are conducted by the Social Welfare Department.
