Day of upsets at $ 15000 ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament

Ana Veselinovic, the top seed in the $ 15000 ITF Women’s Tennis Tournament lost to Kanika Vaidya 3-6 in the first set and then conceded the match 0-4 trailing the second set injury in 2nd round of the tournament on the third day of the tournament being played here.

Zeel Desai from India beat the fourteenth seed Bunyawi Thamchaiwat of Thailand 6-2, 6-3. Dhruti Tatachar Venugopal (IND) beat sixth seed Rutuja Bhosle 6-3, 6-0. Riya Bhatia (IND) beat third seed Pranjala Yadlapalli (IND) 7-5, 6-2. Prerna Bhambri in a gruelling three set spanning three rounds after losing the first set 5-7 won 7-6 in tie break and 6-4 against the eighth seed of Nudnida Luangnam (THA).

Emily Webley-Smith (GBR) seeded 7th lost the first set to Monica Robinson (USA) 3-6, but recovered to take the second third 6-0, 6-1 and moved to quarter finals.

Earlier the second day of the Tournament saw the emergence of Indian duo Nidhi Chilumula and Snehadevi S Reddy by defeating Monica Robinson and Zoe Gwen Scandalis of USA by 7-6 (5), 7-5 points.The match was evenly poised but Indian players took the lead and clinched the second set.

In another singles match Sara Yadav (India) took the fight to very high level before losing to Riya Bhatia by 4-6, 2-6. Besides, Court no 2 witnessed a big fight in the tie breaker of the first set between Nudnida Luangnam (Thailand) and Rishika Sunkara (India) which ultimately culminated in favaour of Thailand girl 12-10 and then she took the match by 7-6, 6-0 points.

In super tie break Sai Samhitha Chamarthi and Shweta Chandra Rana (India) beat Riya Bhatia and Dhruti Tatachar Venugopal by 6-2, 2-6, 10-5 points.
