NEW DELHI: In 2016, the United States produced around 12.4 million barrels of oil a day, 82 per cent more than the last decade. The growth comes on the back of exploitation of tight oil, of which
shale oil is the most important source.
While
Saudi Arabia continues to be one of the top producers-- since 2014 the US has consistently been pipping both Saudi and
Russia (the other major oil producer) -- in terms of barrels produced per day.
