Graham Arnold is set to be appointed as the long term coach of the Socceroos and is understood to have signed a four-year deal with Football Federation Australia.
The current Sydney FC coach will replace Bert van Marwijk and take charge of the national team after the 2018 World Cup in Russia after agreeing to a deal with Football Federation Australia.
It's understood Arnold notified Sydney FC of his resignation two months ago enabling him to freely move to the national team job.
Arnold will be unveiled as the long-term Socceroos coach early on Thursday afternoon at a press conference in Sydney. He will not be part of the travelling party to the World Cup in Russia or have any involvement with the national team before his first games in charge, likely to be in late August or early September.
His first competition in charge of the national team will be the 2019 Asian Cup in the UAE in January before seeing Australia through the next stage of qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
This will be Arnold's second stint with the national team after being assistant to Frank Farina and Guus Hiddink before assuming a caretaker's role in 2006 and 2007.
Arnold was selected on the back of his results in the A-League having won two premierships, two championships and an FFA Cup during tenures with Central Coast Mariners and Sydney FC.
