Cape Town – Michelle Obama met the adorable little girl who was mesmerised by her official presidential portrait.

ICYMI, a photo of 2-year-old Parker Curry staring in awe at Michelle Obama’s portrait at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. went viral last week, for all the right reasons.

One of them being that the tiny tot’s reaction to the painting - by artist Amy Sherald – is exactly what the former First Lady had hoped for.

In her speech at the unveiling Michelle said: “I’m also thinking about all of the young people, particularly girls and girls of colour, who, in years ahead, will come to this place and they will look up and they will see an image of someone who looks like them hanging on the wall of this great American institution.”

Following the spread of little Parker’s admiration, Michelle reached out to her and her family to arrange a meeting.

Jessica Curry, Parker’s mom, told CNN they couldn’t believe it when Michelle reached out and called the meeting “amazing”.

“It was amazing. She's really down to earth, really sweet. We had a good time talking to her. Her and Parker chatted and they hung out and Parker got her out of her shoes and got her up and dancing.”

Sharing a photo and video of herslef hanging out with Parker on Instagram, Michelle wrote: “I'm so glad I had the chance to meet you today (and for the dance party)! Keep on dreaming big for yourself...and maybe one day I'll proudly look up at a portrait of you!”
