Imported pepper pull down prices

Availability of imported pepper from Vietnam and Sri Lanka in the consuming centres across the country at ₹360-₹365 a kg has pulled down the pepper prices further on Wednesday. Similarly, pepper from Karnataka is also being moved out at ₹365 a kg delivered anywhere in India, market sources told Business Line . Sri Lankan material is being sold mainly in the south at ₹360 a kg, they said. On the terminal market 15 tonnes were traded today. Four tonnes of pepper from Pulpally and Bathery went for ₹360 a kg while four tonnes of high range material were traded at ₹380 a kg. Seven tonnes of Sri Lankan stuff was sold at ₹360 a kg. Spot prices slipped by ₹100 a quintal to close at ₹37,000 (ungarbled) and ₹39,000 (garbled) a quintal. Indian export prices were at ₹6,250 a tonne c&f for Europe and ₹6,500 a tonne c&f for the US.
