more-in

Fire and Rescue Services personnel are fighting to control a major fire that broke out in a shop and godown of a scrap dealer near Chala market on the Attakulangara bypass here around Tuesday midnight.

Eight fire tenders are working to bring the fire that broke out around 11.50 p.m. under control.

The Fire and Rescue Services control room said the fire was first spotted in the godown of the scrap dealer and later it spread to the shop. Two adjoining houses were also gutted.

The fire is a major one and steps are being taken to prevent it from spreading to nearby areas.
