Lok Sabha adjourned for the day
The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Wednesday amid continuing protests by the opposition over the Rs 12,600 crore Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud and other issues.

When the House met at 12 noon after its first adjournment, opposition members were on their feet with their demands. Many trooped near the Speaker's podium carrying placards.

While the Congress and Trinamool Congress sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's reply in the bank fraud case, BJP ally TDP continued to seek special economic package for Andhra Pradesh.

AIADMK members were near the podium demanding a Cauvery Management Board while Telangana Rashtra Samithi members sought an increase in the quota in the state beyond 50 per cent.

Shiv Sena members wanted classical language status for Marathi but returned to their seats after Speaker Sumitra Mahajan allowed party MP Anandrao Adsul to speak on the issue.

Adsul said amid the din that the party had been raising the demand for declaring Marathi as a classical language for years.

"Marathi is an old language and meets the criteria of a classical language," he said.

The Shiv Sena member said several languages, including Telugu and Odia, had been classified as classical. He urged Home Minister Rajnath Singh to reply.

As the din continued, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan adjourned the House for the day.

Earlier, when the Lok Sabha met, opposition members came near the podium raising their issues. Mahajan then adjourned the House till 12 noon.

The TDP MPs had earlier staged protests near the Mahatma Gandhi statue.

The House has been successively adjourned for the third day following opposition protests.
