The Traffic Police on Tuesday conducted an anti-encroachment drive at Kutchery Chowk and New Market area. In the joint operation organized by Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) and Ranchi Traffic Police, all major routes were decongested.
The drive initiated with an aim to streamline traffic will continue for a week, penalizing the defaulters who despite instructions intentionally put up their stalls and park their vehicles on roads.
Traffic DSP-1, Dilip Xalxo who headed the team in the anti-encroachment drive said, “All illegal shop-keepers putting shops along the roadside were penalized. The team also seized the vehicles parked on the roads. In the first round, the traffic police personnel covered areas around Zakir Hussain Park where enormous numbers of vehicles were parked in wrong direction, Kishori Yadav Chowk including entire New Market area.”
Traffic DSP-1, Xalxo further added that the Civic Body’s Enforcement Cell targeted a few busy market places at MG Road for smooth vehicular movement. In addition, in an attempt to put a check on all illegal auto-rickshaws plying in Capital City without permits, the traffic police carried out a massive checking drive at different traffic check posts along with the anti-encroachment drive.
As per the record, the traffic police seized nearly 25 auto-rickshaws plying on Tuesday plying on roads without permits. More than 18 E-Rickshaws were also seized during the checking drive.
Notably, for ensuring better execution of traffic plan, both the Traffic DSPs including the Traffic Inspectors have been made responsible, failing to which stern action will be taken against them. Also, as per the Traffic Police department communiqué, no auto-rickshaws will be allowed to ferry passengers without valid permits.
Besides, all E-rickshaws must have QR Code stickers embedded on the vehicle while ensuring that they just ferry passengers on the defined routes allotted to them through lottery. As per the records available, more than 500 illegal auto-rickshaws ply on city roads while the number of E-Rickshaws after increasing its coverage routes has become a major reason of traffic snarl at major routes like New Market, MG Road, Upper Bazaar etc.
