Woman, brother murdered

| | New Delhi

A 45-year-old school principal was shot dead by two unidentified men in her house allegedly over a property dispute in Outer Delhi’s Chhawla area on Monday night. Hours after her murder was reported to the police, body of her brother was found at an agricultural field in Jhajjar district of Haryana on Tuesday morning. The deceased man has been identified as Jai Kishan (40), who used to work as the transport manager in the school run by his sister, Anita Yadav.

Talking about the property dispute, a senior police officer privy to the investigation said, “Two-and-a-half years ago, Anita had bought a piece of land from Naveen Yadav and further sold it to another man. However, for the past eight months, Naveen had been putting pressure on her to give back the land but she was asking Naveen that she could pay up the interest on the rate at which she bought the land which Naveen declined.”

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh said, “We received a call around 10.20 pm on Monday regarding firing at a woman in Ghumman Hera village. The police team rushed her to the RTR hospital where she was declared brought dead. We have identified the persons involved in her murder. Efforts are on to trace them. We have registered a case of murder at the Chhawla police station.”

Police said Anita Yadav used to run a school on the ground and the first floor of her residence and lived with her husband and son on the second floor.

“On Monday night, two men, including Naveen arrived in a car with another man. Since Naveen who is Anita’s husband’s former business partner had a friendly relation with the family, he along with his associate went into the house. At the same time, Anita’s husband and son who had gone out of the house to buy groceries, returned. By the time, the father son returned home, a white Santro car arrived in front of their house.

Naveen, a property dealer, held Anita’s husband and son hostage at gunpoint. However, bullet got jammed stuck when they tried to fire. It was on hearing the commotion on the terrace that Anita came upstairs and was fired at in the chest,” said a senior police officer.

The officer further said that although CCTV cameras had been installed on the premises of the school-cum-residence, all of them except one were non-functional. Based on the statement given by Anita’s family, a case was registered againstNaveen, he added.

Footage of one of CCTV cameras installed near the house shows the accused entering and leaving the property.

Police said that they suspect that Anita’s brother Jai Kishan (40) was killed in the Jhajjar district on Monday evening after which his body was dumped in the agricultural field. Police added Naveen suspected to have killed Anita and her brother worked as a property dealer with the victim’s husband earlier.
