DULER: FC de Bardez had to settle for a draw as they locked horns with Calangute Association Sports Club in the Goa Professional League match organised by Goa Football Association (GFA) at Duler on Wednesday.
After Wednesday’s draw, Calangute Association sits on 6th position with 19 points in 16 matches, while Football Club de Bardez remains on 9th.
Coach of the pink brigade, Climax Lawrence, made six changes in the starting line-up, which included – Viraj Naik, Inacio Colaco, Ronil Azavedo, Sherman Vaz, Joywin Carneiro and Danstan Fernandes after their humiliating 6-0 defeat against Guardian Angel.
Calangute Association, after their 2-0 defeat to Dempo SC , saw coach Alex Alvares make just two changes by fielding defender Amar Haldankar and midfielder Yamnurdsab Pinjar.
After midfield play in the 25th minute, Bardez’s Ronil Azavedo dribbled past Nigerian Kouame M. Joseph and set up Clinton Niasso who had just Calangute keeper Jason D’Mello to beat. However, he shot wide.
Minutes later, Calangute midfielder Josley Dias tried to find his teammate Blake Haldankar inside the goal area but before the latter could create any damage, Bardez keeper David Chauhan left his charge to collect the ball.
In added time of the first session, the best chance for Calangute colts to break the deadlock went in vain when a firm head by Kouame M. Joseph off a cross by Joston Pereira hit the upright.
As the game resumed post half time, the game was mostly restricted to midfield. In the 60th minute, Bardez’s Shubham Dessai sent a long cross from the right flank to the far end to his striker Ronil Azavedo whose tap at the goal was blocked by Calangute defender Bersal Viegas on the goal line.
In the last quarter of the match Calangute found themselves two good opportunities to open their account. Bersal Viegas got Josley Dias right inside the penalty box, but the latter having just the keeper at his mercy, shot out.
Three minutes later Bonny Niasso sent a perfect cross to Joston Pereira who connected his strike at the goal which was blocked by Bardez keeper David and the ball rolled to Jayesh Chopdekar whose weak shot from close was once again blocked by the keeper and off the rebound Joston strike was collected confidently by keeper David.
FC Bardez managed to snatch a point from their opponents after six successive defeats.
