Five accused roughed up victim in car

Powai police suspect personal rivalry to be the reason behind the abduction and assault of a Vikhroli resident on February 28.

Jehan Divecha, a 24-year-old MBA student, was forced into a Honda City by five youths and assaulted. Two days before the incident, Mr. Divecha got into an argument with one of the five accused, after his car brushed the accused’s bike.

Investigating officers said that it was unlikely that the accused would lure Mr. Divecha to Powai using a fake Facebook profile and abduct him over a minor argument. N.D. Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone X), said, “The accused and the complainant stay in the same locality in Vikhroli (East). We are conducting inquiries to find if there was a history of personal rivalry between them.

The five accused have been identified as Aniket Kamble (21), Mukesh Verma (20), Devendra Pradhan (19), Santosh Sarvade (30) and Sagar Kadam (19).

Mr. Reddy said, “The accused tracked Mr. Divecha’s car and then sent him a friend request on Facebook using the fake profile of a girl. They asked him to meet ‘her’ at Hiranandani area in Powai. Once he reached the spot, the accused they forced him into the car and assaulted him.” Mr. Divecha is recovering at Nulife Hospital in Ghatkopar.
