Mumbai: Industrialist Anand Mahindra and V.G. Jairam, both of whom are spearheading the revival of Rhythm House, on Tuesday met a senior Enforcement Directorate (ED) officer to understand the process leading to the auction of the iconic property, owned by diamantaire Nirav Modi and presently attached by the ED.
Through @RhythmHouseRev, a Twitter handle specifically created to share information (and discuss ideas) about the initiative to acquire and restore Rhythm House, it was announced that Mr. Mahindra and Mr. Jairam met Vineet Agarwal, special director, western region, ED.
Through a series of Tweets, it was informed that the genesis of the revival movement was shared with Mr. Agarwal, which he appreciated. The ED special director in turn explained that the property had been only provisionally attached by the agency, and approval of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act adjudicating authority for final attachment is being awaited.
“He encouraged us to stay in touch and assured us that he will share their progress. We view the meeting as a positive development. We will now consult specialist lawyers to map out our options in bidding for, or utilising the property for a wider public purpose and share those options when they are determined,” it was said.
“We are optimistic that a fruitful outcome could emerge in 12 months. In the meantime, we need to demonstrate continued public support of the initiative.”
