SURAT: Investigation in the road accident in which
Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) working president Pravin Togadia’s SUV was hit by a truck, revealed that in attempt to overtake the truck from wrong side the accident took place. Togadia’s SUV overtook the truck involved in the accident from wrong side when the multi axle truck trailer hit the SUV from back.
Togadia escaped unhurt in the accident on Wednesday morning when the truck trailer knocked his bulletproof
Mahindra Scorpio from back near Kamrej of Surat on NH 48. Togadia alleged conspiracy in not providing him two escort vehicles as per Z+ security and demanded independent inquiry.
Togadia’s SUV was hit by the truck near
Manisha Hotel when he was coming to the city from Vadodara. A police complaint in this regard has been registered in Kamrej police station. Driver of Togadia’s car, a police officer, has lodged the complaint.
Police investigation revealed that the truck was moving in first lane and did not give way to Togadia’s SUV which was led by a police pilot car. Soon the pilot car and Togadia’s SUV overtook the truck from left side. The pilot car returned to first lane after overtaking but when the SUV was returning to first lane it was hit by the truck from backside. The SUV’s outer body got damaged while driver suffered minor injury on right hand wrist.
“I am provided Z+ security cover and two escort cars and a pilot car are provided to me on highways wherever in India I go. There were escort cars and pilot cars upto
Bharuch but as soon as I entered in Surat district the escort cars were missing. There was only one pilot car,” said Togadia.
Surat rural police confirmed that the escort cars were not there and an inquiry has been ordered by Surat range IGP, G S Malik. “So far we found that the truck was in first lane. It is a violation of traffic rules. And it was not giving way to these cars. Later the pilot car and SUV overtook the truck from left side. The pilot car went ahead after overtaking but the SUV was hit by the truck while entering in first lane,” said Malik.
