The railway police on Tuesday arrested Rose Murali (28), whose wife Jeevitha committed suicide by jumping into the Adyar River from a moving train on Saturday. Rose works in the HR department of an IT company in Siruseri.

He was arrested under sections of the IPC 498 A (husband or relative of woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 304 B (dowry death). Jeevitha (25), who was working as an assistant to a physician, was allegedly upset over her husband’s relationship with one of his female friends. She had even called the other woman over phone and pleaded with her not to hang around with Rose Murali. Geetha, widowed mother of Jeevitha also accused that Rose had demanded more dowry from them.

Police on Monday said that the couple had a fight over inviting Jeevitha’s mother and brother to the first birthday of their daughter. “But even before that there were other issues, including Rose’s relationship with a woman, simmering between the two,” a police officer on Tuesday said.
Jeevitha’s mother while talking to reporters said that Jeevitha was harassed by Rose while his father and mother demanded dowry during every occasion, despite the 25-year-old giving the entire salary to them.
