Nagpur: Two jawans of the 191 Battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (
CRPF), deployed at Etapalli base camp in south Gadchiroli, were injured after one of their
colleagues fired at them with his service rifle inside their campus at Jeevangatta Road on Tuesday.
The injured, identified as SN Ingley and Sanghpal Maroti, were first rushed to the government hospital at Chandrapur and then later shifted to Nagpur.
The injured jawans are now recuperating at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here. GMCH sources said that the jawans are now out of danger.
It’s learnt Sanjay Shendre fired three rounds from his service rifle. While a bullet grazed past the stomach of one of the jawans, another pierced the leg of his colleague.
Shendre, who had a tiff with the duo on Holi day, opened fire during a heated argument. The clash took place post dinner when the rest of the battalion was preparing to go to bed.
Shendre, who tried to escape, was overpowered by colleagues. The CRPF authorities did not alert the district cops immediately. A senior official has expressed shock at the delay.
An offence of attempt to murder was registered against Shendre at Etapalli police station on Wednesday afternoon. The weapon used by Shendre has been seized by the cops.
This is the third untoward incident involving the CRPF which has been deployed in the district to tackle Naxalism. Earlier, two CRPF jawans had committed suicide.
