To continue to back Congress in BBMP Council

Regardless of shortage of numbers in the Assembly, the Janata Dal (Secular) on Wednesday decided to field general secretary B.M. Farooq in the Rajya Sabha polls.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, national president H.D. Deve Gowda said the JD(S) is still hoping for Congress’s support. “If the concern of the Congress for minority communities is genuine, let them support Mr. Farooq,” he said.

Taking a dig at the Congress for having admitted Ashok Kheny — MLA from Bidar South Constituency and managing director of NICE — into the party, he sought to know why it was not ordering a probe, as recommended by the House Committee.

“Let the government explain the terms of understanding reached with Mr. Kheny. Or let the Chief Minister state that the government has condoned all the irregularities committed by Mr. Kheny in the BMIC project,” he said. He recalled that the BJP had opposed action against Mr. Kheny during the 20-month regime of H.D. Kumaraswamy.

Support in BBMP

Spiking rumours of the JD(S) withdrawing its support to the Congress in the BBMP, Mr. Deve Gowda clarified that the party would, however, continue to fight against the misdoings of the government.

Scam in civic body

Seeking an explanation from the government on the action taken in the alleged ₹2,500-crore scam in the civic body during the previous BJP government, Mr. Deve Gowda regretted that the present Congress government had not taken any action on the report of the Kataria Committee, which probed financial irregularities in the BBMP.
