With the Aircel network going off air, over one lakh customers in the Tamil Nadu circle have registered for porting into BSNL from March 1 and over 66,000 customers have already ported in from March 1.
This was announced by R. Marshal Antony Leo, Chief General Manager, telecom, BSNL Tamil Nadu circle, at a press meet on Tuesday.
He said that between April 2017 and February 2018 1,61,742 customers ported to BSNL from other networks.
“On an average, over 1.5 lakh customers are added to the BSNL network every month. However, in February 2018 alone, over three lakh customers joined us,” he explained.
He said steps are being taken to improve the quality of service by improving infrastructure and increasing manpower. He said that under the GSM Phase VIII.4 expansion project, a total of 1,127 2G towers will be upgraded to improve the quality of service. Under the project, 3G services will be extended to 1,200 towns/villages in the Tamil Nadu circle.
