Ministers get financial powers up to Rs 1 crore

PANAJI: The state finance department has issued an office memorandum granting financial powers to the ministers to sanction proposals involving expenditure up to Rs 1 crore.

“The proposals involving expenditure sanctions up to Rs 1 crore shall be disposed by the minister of the department concerned,” the office memorandum on the department disposal of business stated.

It further said that all such proposals shall be processed in their normal course through the division concerned of the finance department, adding that the arrangement shall be in force up to the end of the financial year 2017-18, that is up to March 31, 2018, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza said that with this new order by the finance department, the ministers can give approval to proposals up to Rs 1 crore.

“Earlier, we did not have such financial powers, thus the proposals were sent to the finance minister,” he said adding that the proposals for more than Rs 1 crore but up to Rs 5 crore will come to the three-member ministerial committee.
