New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks to Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the vandalism of statues in Tripura. The ministry of home affairs asks state government to take strong action.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has taken note of the instances of statues being toppled in the country. At least two Lenin statues were brought down in Tripura while a Periyar statue was vandalised in Tamil Nadu's Vellore. Reports also came in today of a bust of Syama Prasad Mukherjee, a Sangh ideologue, being targetted in Kolkata. The MHA adivsory, however, came just before the reports came in.
The MHA, in its advisory issued after Lenin and Periyar statues were targetted, said states have been asked to "take all necessary measures to prevent such incidents" an MHA advisory said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to Home Minister Rajnath Singh and has expressed his "strong disapproval" of such incidents, the MHA advisory added.
