CHANDIGARH: A district court here allowed an
application of Chandigarh Police for seeking production
warrant of gangster Ravinder alias Kali Rajput, a member of the dreaded
Lawrence Bishnoi group, in a case of kidnapping dating to September last year.
The production warrants have been sought for a case dating to September 23, 2017. Complainant Amit Kumar had alleged that the accused kidnapped him and took Rs 1 crore for his release.
Kali will now be produced in court on March 8, when the court will decide on the number of days he has to be remanded in police custody. The accused was remanded in judicial custody on March 3, in a case related to abduction of a city-based hotelier .
Kali is among the most wanted criminals in Punjab, and has a Rs 1 lakh reward on his head. It is expected that police will require him in number of cases for investigation. In connection with the kidnapping case last year, Kali was booked under sections 386 (extortion), 364 (kidnapping), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code at that time. He was also booked under various sections of the Arms Act.
Kali was arrested on January 19, 2018, from Firozabad and he was brought to Chandigarh by UT police on production warrants. On Saturday, he was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.
