The Raj Nivas on Wednesday organised a self-defence camp for girls as part of its week-long Women’s Day celebrations.
More than 100 women students from various medical, engineering and arts and science colleges along with the women beat officers participated in the “Self-defence for women empowerment” drive for providing security to women.
Chittibabu, Master, Jawahar Balbhavan, Puducherry, imparted the self-defence techniques to the students. The training focussed on protecting oneself from knife attack, chain snatching, hug attack, neck attack, punching and even shouting out loud.
R. Hemamalini, policewoman and a master in karate, under the observation of Apoorva Gupta, Senior Superintendent of Police, and Rachna Singh, Superintendent of Police, trained a group of college students in basic karate for self-defence apart from creating awareness.
Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi, who watched the demonstration, gave some tips to the students in protecting them from any kind of attack and demonstrated some protective steps.
