‘Learn lessons on how to respect girl child from forest dwellers'

| | Rajnandgaon | in Raipur

Lessons on how to respect the girl child should be learnt from the forest dwellers of  Bastar division, Chief Minister Raman Singh said on Tuesday.

Bastar division leads in male-female ratio in the entire State, he said.

Female foeticide is akin to murder and provision of punishment should be that which is given for murder, Singh suggested.

The Chief Minister was addressing a function of 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padao' programme at Padamshri Govndram Nirmalkar here on Tuesday.

He said that the Constitution of India provides equal rights to men and women.

Chhattisgarh leads in male-female ratio in the entire country. There are 997 females for every 1000 males, Singh said.

He said that the daughters of the State are ahead in all fields. Earlier girls were hesitant to attend schools due to lack of toilets.

Now the State government had constructed toilets in all schools.

All the girl schools in the State have the arrangement for distribution of sanitary napkins, he said.

The State Government has distributed bicycles to all high school girl students. The school facilities had helped more girls motivated to attend schools, Singh said.

The Chief Minister said that when girls who were selected for D.S.P. and Deputy Collectors' posts were queried as to who are willing to get postings in Left-Wing Extremism affected regions, all of them agreed to be posted there. This shows the self-confidence of girls.

The students who got more than 85 per cent in the 10th and 12th Board examinations were presented commendation certificates and school bag at the function.
