The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Wednesday said that as a part of the Rape Roko movement launched by the commission, it had submitted close to 5.5 lakh letters to the Prime Minister’s Office.

The women’s commission said people from across the country had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to take stringent action against those accused of raping minors.

Swati Maliwal, chairperson of the DCW was detained by the police at Vijay Chowk, while she was on her way to the PMO. Police said she was briefly detained at Mandir Marg police station because she was trying to enter restricted area

“Lakhs of people sent their requests to the Prime Minister in the form of letters with great hope. This was their Mann Ki Baat. It is sad that their letters were stepped upon and trashed,” said Ms. Maliwal.
