Innovative method to suit ever-changing tastes

If you thought a cup of tea was meant for just drinking then you are wrong.

‘Chai’ is also used for painting and a good number of thematic artworks were on display at the three-day leather art training and exhibition, organised by the Andhra Pradesh Creativity and Culture Commission, The Cultural Center of Vijayawada and Amaravati and the Minakkshi Arts and Crafts Welfare Society here on Tuesday.

Sk. Shaheen (27) from Narasaraopet, who is keen on emerging as an entrepreneur, was overwhelmed by the curiosity evinced by the media at the inaugural function. Amid all the colourful artworks made of acrylic and watercolours; the ‘tea-art’ drew the attention of the viewers.

“All I do is to splash a cup of tea on an art paper and create the images I visualise. I use regular brushes to give shape to my thoughts,” said the artist, while exhibiting a portrayal of a temple in the backdrop of village ambiance.

“This is part of the innovative methods we use in handicrafts promotion to suit the customers’ ever-changing tastes,” she added.

Ms. Shameen justified not using any other colour on the artwork as it (the work) will lose its exclusivity and uniqueness. “Only tea and nothing else.”

She said the brush often turned hard and she was forced to dip it in the water to carry on with the creative pursuit. “I started this innovative painting just a month back with the help my instructor Siva at Narasaraopet.”

The aspiring entrepreneur agreed that all paintings look similar owing to the same brownish colour. “With more-tea-and-less milk, we can get a slightly darker shade,” she explained.
