The BJP today accused the previous Congress led-UPA government of opening all doors to favour some companies which were prohibited from participating in the 80:20 Gold scheme.
The party said, just a day before the announcement of the Lok Sabha poll results in 2014, the then Finance Minister P Chidambaram had announced a new policy in which designated few companies, including Gitanjali jewellers, were allowed gold imports.
Briefing reporters at party headquarters in New Delhi, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said certain trading houses were allowed to import gold up to 2,000 kg from any port of India without any proper control or verification.
