Bharatiya Janata Party State president K. Laxman on Tuesday said the sudden ‘Third Front’ move of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, was a ploy to divert people from the talk of development.
“The government failed the people of Telangana and this is a diversionary tactic,” he said.
While the State figures among the top in suicides by farmers, what is the need for Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao to focus his attention on the national scene when he cannot even address the issues in the State, he remarked. Mr. Laxman, who was here to launch the party’s 100-km padayatra in the district to clean the river Musi — ‘Musi Prakshalana Padayatra’ — alleged that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti always benefited contractors, but did not address issues. For instance, the TRS aimed at beautifying the Musi, while the actual problem of industrial release of toxic pollutants into the river was never addressed.
Some four mandals in the Musi river command area suffer everyday for clean drinking water, receive toxic waters in their agricultural fields and people are getting affected by several diseases, he pointed out.
The padayatra would cover the affected regions, the people there would be motivated to question the government and fight for their basic rights. “The government makes problems appear beautiful, and the core issue is never questioned, hence remains unresolved,” Mr. Laxman said.
