There is no doubt that in Bengaluru the number of
women practitioners in performing arts has increased over the past few years. Traditionally, the majority of plays revolved around male protagonists. And even the characters written for women ended up being played by men. But times have changed now. Be it acting, script writing or theatre management, women are spearheading in all these sections. But having said that, there are still challenges in terms of lighting technicians and sound designs. Are we training women to bridge that gap in the coming years is the critical question that the theatre community need to address.
