Ahmedabad: Gujarat high court on Wednesday refused to entertain a PIL seeking directions to the Centre to begin a thorough probe into the Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud, stern action against the culprits and the privatization of nationalized banks.
A division bench rejected the PIL at this stage and told Praful Desai, the petitioner, to agitate the issue before the central government, with the observation that the government should take necessary steps to curb such scams. The HC granted liberty to the petitioner to approach the court again, if his demands are not met by the government.
Desai, a resident from Vadodara, cited articles and expert opinion and argued that only privatization of nationalized banks would put regulation on bankers granting huge loans to business houses.
